Postgraduate education and current position
Graduated from Medical School at the University of Aarhus in 1977. Achieved authorization as general surgeon in 1988, surgical gastroenterology in 1993 and UEMS-certification as pediatric surgeon in 1997. Served as Chief Surgeon at the Department of Surgical Gastroenterology at Odense University Hospital since 1995. Special responsibilities are pelvic surgery, colorectal surgery, IBD-surgery, surgical complications, congenital gastrointestinal malformations and pediatric surgery. Professor in surgery at the University of Southern Denmark since 2004.
Defended the medical doctorial thesis at Odense University in 1995 entitled: ”Motor activity of the gallbladder and gastrointestinal tract as determinants of enterohepatic circulation”. The publication list includes 197 publications in peer-reviewed medical journals. A total of 293 scientific presentations (oral or posters) at meetings, congresses and symposia. Past or present supervisor for 13 PhD-students. Supervisor for 6 completed scholarships. Supervisor for 11 projects on experimental surgery under the elite-study program at the University of Southern Denmark. Assessor on 27 PhD-thesis and 7 doctorial theses.
Danish Society of Gastroenterology: Member of the board from 1992-96 and secretary from 1993-96. Scandinavian Association on Gastrointestinal Motility: Member of the board from 1995-2003 and president from 1999 to 2003. Danish Surgical Society: Member of the board from 1999-2007 and chairman from 2004-2006. Danish Medical Society: Member of the board from 2006 and co-chairman from 2008. Member of the International Surgical Club in 2009.
