A major part of my research has dealt with different aspects of the protein Delta-like 1 homolog (DLK1). In relation to this, we generated a number of anti-DLK1 antibodies and subsequently developed well-characterized ELISA´s for quantification. These antibodies and assays have been applied in various biological contexts eventually leading me into the field of stem cell biology. During the last years our results have led us to investigate in more detail how Dlk1 affects development of skeletal muscle, fat as well as heart tissue, with emphasis on its role in stem cell biology and regeneration of the given tissues as well.
